About

An Anglican Synaxarium Podcast exists to provide Episcopalians and other Anglicans with devotional resources focused upon our Great Cloud of Witnesses, the Saints. Each day, An Anglican Synaxarium will provide a podcast episode telling the life of at least one Saint, or, alternatively, commemorating a major feast of the church. An Anglican Synaxarium builds upon the sanctoral calendar of the Episcopal Church in the United States, using sanctoral kalendar resources from throughout the Anglican Communion, as well as the Great Church tradition as a whole (the Church of the East, along with the Latin, Eastern Orthodox, and Oriental Orthodox communions).

Why the title An Anglican Synaxarium? A Synaxarium is a sanctoral book of the Coptic Orthodox Church, containing the lives of the Saints. One of my inspirations for building An Anglican Synaxarium was hearing a Coptic priest say that his parishioners who have relationships with the Saints and read the Synaxarium have the strongest relationships with God. I combined that with the experience of reading the “Person of the Day” in my parish on Wednesday mornings when we have a Healing Mass service.

My goal in creating An Anglican Synaxarium is to help fellow Anglicans and other Christians who are seeking to grow closer to God in holiness with a resource that provides inspiration, wonder, and a bit of whimsy to your day. I invite you to listen to the podcast, or read the day’s Synaxarium entry via the website or on the app, or even printed and used next to your Book of Common Prayer before or after the Daily Office. I especially encourage you to listen to An Anglican Synaxarium before or after you listen to one of several available Daily Office podcasts that are linked below. (These Daily Office podcasts are not affiliated with An Anglican Synaxarium).

Thanks for listening,

Joshua
